January 13 1960: The day after Shute's death it is reported that "Trustee From The Toolroom" has been selected for the US Book Of The Month Club.
11.30 am Jan 15 1960 : Shute's funeral service and cremation are conducted at Springvale Crematorium in Victoria.
March 28 1960 : "Trustee From The Toolroom" is published posthumously and becomes one of the US top ten fiction best sellers of 1960.
June 1960 : Shute's portrait is entered in the Archibald Prize.
8 months after Shute's death in January 1960, 7 early members of deHavillands gathered in front of the DH53 for which Shute designed the propeller as a young man to celebrate the deHavilland company's 40th anniversary. Sir Geoffrey de Havilland (far left) was Shute's first employer. Also pictured are W.E. Nixon, F.T. Hearle and C.C. Walker. Sir Alan Cobham (to the right of the propeller) was Shute's business partner and literary inspiration. Next is A.E. Hagg.
