 Andy has had a lifelong interest in aerospace and so when he found a book in the local library with an aircraft on the cover it attracted him.  It was Landfall and from it he learnt that Shute had also been an aeronautical engineer.  Further investigation showed that Shute had been a keen model engineer, a hobby that Andy also shares.  After attending the 2003 Southsea conference he became involved with the NSN Foundation and undertook research into Shute's life along with the late John Anderson and Mike Meehan.  Andy served as the UK Librarian until the pandemic prevented him continuing.  Andy is a widower living in Bristol, England and has two daughters, sadly neither of whom are interested in Shute.
