1840
February : February: Nevil Shute's great grandfather Nevell Norway, who was a Cornwall ship owner, is murdered by 2 farm labourers. At about the same time, Nevell Norway's brother, far away on a ship, dreams of his brother's murder in considerable detail and, having had his dream recorded in the ship's log by the captain, returns to find the dream was true.
Paranormal events are later described in several of Shute's novels.
1892
Between April and June 1892 : Arthur Hamilton Norway (born 7 October 1859 near Wadebridge, Cornwall - dies 1938) marries Mary Louisa Gadsden (1860 or 1861-1932) at Brentford, Middlesex. He is 32 and she is 31-ish.

1895
Between October and December 1895 : Shute's brother, Frederick Hamilton Norway, is born at Brentford, Middlesex.

Shute develops a stammer at about the age of 5.

1907 : Shute goes to a prep school in nearby Hammersmith.

1910

Shute is sent to the Dragon School at Oxford after playing truant at the South Kensington Science Museum.
